Schedule your special event!

The Depot building and grounds are a special place to hold your events, such as weddings, receptions, parties, family reunions, or office workshops.  Inside gatherings can be held in the Waiting Room and Ticket Office downstairs or in the Upstairs Gallery that has a small kitchen adjacent.  The Depot balcony is a wonderful place from which to toss a wedding bouquet!

The outside courtyard is made of smooth, stamped concrete under a beautiful tree canopy and has ample room for tables and chairs.  The perimeter is lined with built-in wooden benches and attractive landscaping.  Adjacent to the courtyard is a lawn area that can be used separately or in conjunction with courtyard events.

The Depot is located across the alley from the Weinhard Hotel, a Victorian lodging establishment with a rooftop garden.  It is a wonderful place for honeymooners.

Both the Boldman House Museum and the Dayton Historic Depot have rotating exhibits.

  • The Boldman House: The Boldman Radio Collection on exhibit through December 2019.
  • The Upstairs Gallery at the Dayton Historic Depot: “Making an Impression:  Daily Wear in Dayton, 1890-1989.”  Drawing on the collections from the Dayton Historic Depot and the Boldman House, this year’s exhibit examines women’s daily wear over a 100 year period.  The exhibit was funded by the Warren Foundation and the Pacific Power Foundation.  Special thanks goes to Lorna Barth, Sylvia Beuhler, Christine Broughton, and Mary Luce who all donated artifacts and time to help complete the exhibit.
  • The Ticket Office and Waiting Room in the Dayton Historic Depot: “Romping in the Blues”  late 19th century and early 20th century photographs of Dayton citizens hunting, fishing and camping in the Blue Mountains.

Walla Walla and Dayton Rails

The Dayton Historic Depot is pleased to have Thomas Hillebrant, local railroad historian and author present “Walla Walla and Dayton Rails,” a slide show and discussion on the history of railroads serving Dayton and the greater Walla Walla region.  The event will be March 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Dayton Historic Depot, 222 E. Commercial Ave., Dayton, WA  99328.

Thomas will discuss how early farmers in the Walla Walla region clamored for railroads to carry their harvests to world markets. Soon, a veritable spider’s web of competing rail routes left few corners of the Inland Northwest untouched. Some lines also reached into nearby forests, hauling timber to local sawmills and shipping out finished lumber. As the principal transporter of people and goods prior to World War II, railroads served an integral role in the communities they served. Despite traffic losses to competing trucks and river barges, railroads still haul considerable grain and other commodities on these lines today.

Thomas will also autograph copies of his recent book, Palouse Rails: Granger Railroads of the Inland Northwest, for sale at the end of his presentation.
